Low glycemic index diet may not help in the prevention of cardiovascular disease

Nutrition scholars popular concept of the glycemic index, the index may show different foods elevate blood sugar range. But the United States, a new study shows that even people who do not have diabetes are overweight or obese, and without concern or worry about the glycemic index diet.

This on the 16th published in the “Journal of the American Medical Association,” the study says, in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and improve insulin sensitivity, there is no significant difference between the low and high glycemic index diet.

Although similar to the carbohydrate content of some foods, but there are aspects of the elevated blood glucose levels, high and low, this feature is called the glycemic index, such as the index lower apples, and bananas are high. The traditional view that high glycemic index foods detrimental to heart health, will increase the risk of diabetes. Accordingly some nutritionists advocate eating low glycemic index foods, and even push for food labeling glycemic index values.

In the new study, the Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University and other institutions researchers recruited 163 have prehypertension or stage I overweight adult hypertension, offers four different diets. During the five-week investigation, these people were asked to participate in trials of at least two diets. Four kinds of diets are based on inhibiting the development of hypertension, type recipes, and more fruits and vegetables, dairy products and much less fat, difference is the glycemic index and carbohydrate content.
