Published in “Nature” magazine article showed that, compared to control global warming temperature only 2 degrees Celsius target if there is a 50% chance to reach the level of industrialization before and it is now one-third of the oil storage, half of natural gas storage and more than 80% of the coal should not be used.
Meanwhile, the researchers also elaborated on the different areas that affect the production of fossil fuels.
Although many policy-makers agree that this should reach 2 degrees Celsius global warming control targets, but analysis shows that their attitudes on the use of fossil fuels and their commitment to the climate problem is not consistent.
In order to achieve this in the 21st century, climate control objectives, the need to reduce the use of fossil fuels; but the existing fossil fuels have the potential to produce three times the carbon dioxide warming of 2 degrees Celsius needed.
Christophe McGlade and Paul Ekins and his research team quantified the geographical distribution of coal, oil and natural gas as well as the proportion of the warming in order to achieve objectives need not mined. For example, more than half of the oil reserves in the Middle East is currently the world’s total reserves, in order to achieve the goal of 2 degrees Celsius, 40% of mining need not be stored. The United States and Australia, coal mining can not exceed 10% of its reserves. For unconventional gas resources, such as shale gas in the United States, China, India, Africa and the Middle East need to use strictly limited to no more than 2 degrees Celsius warming to reach the goal.
