2014 annual scientific and technological inventions, from nanometers to outer space

7. A group of miniature robots capable of self-splicing

Robot has become an important tool in many industries, if they are assembled together, they can do more. “Science” in the August publication of Harvard University published work: 1000 Mini Robots – by far the largest number of groups – the ability to assemble themselves into the shape of procedural requirements.

Although the research is still a long road, this achievement will undoubtedly inspired more potential for self-splicing structure, the future it will be possible to subvert the building mode.

8. 3D printer to break new ground

This year, 3D printing as a mature technology has been greatly expanded its performance and applications. A team from Amsterdam to play it to the extreme – they begin to use 3D printing to build an entire house.

Meanwhile, researchers at Princeton integration point light-emitting diodes, developed five different materials you can use a 3D printer, and use it to show the production of contact lenses. From images to wearable health monitoring pilot, it opens up a variety of possible future for us.

9. Advanced Space Exploration

This year’s highlights major events in the coming decades the international status of the solar system exploration. After a decade of flying, the European Space Administration successfully entered the ring Rosetta comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko track.
